Sallux was founded in 2010 and was recognized by the European Parliament as an official registered political foundation in 2011. It was then known as the European Christian Political Foundation. The ECPM (nowadays called ECPP) was registered under Dutch authority from 2005, so it existed already from 2005 onwards (and therefore informally, of course). Concluding, because ECPP celebrates her 20th anniversary, Sallux is celebrating her 15th anniversary this year. Why was Sallux founded and how were the people from the beginning experiencing this first formative years? We asked David Fieldsend, Chairman of the Sallux Board from the beginning onwards, about these first years. He starts his story in the building of his profession right then. ECPM had a structure of associates and had asked them to send delegates to a meeting dedicated to form a political foundation. The meeting was in same building where he worked normally. During the meeting, he was asked to become Chairman of the board of the new to found political foundation. He says now; "I accepted it, because I found it worrying that the EU subsidies went to a lot of causes, but not to those protecting Christian values." About the development of Sallux into the structure and organization of today, he adds; "I think it's quite amazing how this project developed, because I know it small beginnings. Small in number and in geography, with the Netherlands very much in the lead. Now, we have 'East-West-North-South' represented." He sees it as an achievement that Sallux developed in the breadth of her activities and publications. "At first, it was pionering, together with the Jubilee Centre, one of the founding foundations. We pionered the relational way of thinking. We began with mostly covering economical and structural issues, now we broadened our subjects (e.g. climatechange, international relations and ethics, JW)." We also asked some other Board Members to react to our anniversary. Annelie Enochson became engaged in the work for Sallux in 2014. This means this year, she has been involved for twelve years. She says; "Sallux is connecting people all around Europe on the same common ground - Jesus Christ. I'am fascinated about the desire to be Salt and Light in Europe and this shared ground, and also, to be part of it." Esa Eravelo, also a Board Member, who is not able anymore to recollect in his memory when exactly he joined the Board, we asked what is his wish for Sallux future as a European Christian organization. He states: "I wish for the future that there will be more cooperation between the member organizations and that Sallux will introduce new ideas for intellectual discussion based on Christian values. I wish for us, also in the future, the same mutual understanding as in the past and a relational way of going forward." Christophe Foltzenlogel, nowadays Secretary of the Sallux Board, adds, when asked; "I must say I am not an EU advocate. I think to some extend that it is a pagan empire, a godless structure; and the idea to bring "Salt & Light" to it, is not just great, it is necessary. We need to bring Christianity back to Europe and I hope that Sallux is there to that end and will never be "Christian in name only". Sallux: 'We want to thank all our European partners wholefully for their cooperation and collaboration. We celebrated our anniversary together with our present European partners with a small cocktail party in Krakow, on our common GMA (See the photos). We hope, we will be able to go forward with this work of stimulating Christian European thinking in the future in good cooperation with our European memberorganizations.'
