On October 12th – 15th, 2015 a conference “Conscious Elections. Empowering local communities in Ukraine by the the CPFE and the Ukrainian Students’ Association has been held in Ternopil, Ukraine. The core topic was the question of how young people and local communities can become stronger actors in Ukrainian civil society through involvement in the local elections. The timing of the conference was in conjunction with the upcoming local elections that were to be held at 25 October. The conference included training by CPFE and ChristenUnie staff, visits to local councils and many presentations assessing and discussing core issues as integrity, campaigning and creating civil involvement. The challenges of corruption and apathy were discussed in-depth during the conference. The Ukrainian Students’ Association proved to be a strong partner in engaging young people and civil society leaders.
